Goal: Measure the effectiveness of PBIS implementation at Tipps Elementary in Houston, Texas.

1. Determine staff perception of PBIS
-Create online survey for staff to give their perception of PBIS program
-Administer survey in January to get baseline.
-Administer survey in December to find out if perceptions changed based on shared findings.
-Collect and analyze feedback from surveys and compare responses

2. Determine correlation between PBIS and number of referrals in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years.
-Collect discipline data from the district online system from previous school year and current school year.
-Break down data based on subpopulations (gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, and grade level)
-Break down data based on behaviors and locations on campus incidents are occurring.

  3. Our district just implemented a program like PBIS. I can't remember what ours called though. It supposed to improve student behavior.... I guess we shall see. I hope everything works out for you.

    I look forward to reading you action research plan. I am doing a plan on discipline as well. Our school wide program is CHAMPS and we just implemented it this year as well. Good luck!!

Nick: #3 you plan on creating a presentation for the staff; remember in EDLD 5311 (Leadership) one of the important aspect of leadership is building trust with teachers and not creating a meeting for the sake of meeting. Will your meeting be a part a school wide faculty meeting? Will it be a special called meeting? Will teachers be receptive or will they feel it's time wasted? Just want to lay it out there for you to think about.

  7. Looks like you have a lot of action planned, but continue to look for more data, and perhaps some already published studies, to bolster your project. The more data you use, the higher your credibility will be. Good luck!

  8. I love that you are breaking your data down into sub populations so that you can see where strengths are. My school uses PBIS, and hopefully you will see students working for positive reinforcement like we do. Like Rebecca mentioned, you can look for already published studies - maybe from PBIS itself and also from other school with PBIS experience. Maybe you can send a survey out to other principals whose schools have been using PBIS. Maybe you can even set up interviews to interview principals! I'm excited to see what you find out!

  9. Our district just put our LLRs (Low Level Referrals and Office Referrals online. It is awesome! Teachers input the referral then it is automatically sent to the parents, administration and behavior interventionist. Then it saves in your records. It is so much easier to keep track of data.

  10. I am impressed with your plan and look forward to seeing how everything turns out for you. I am at the middle school level and we put a plan into action about five years ago. It took time to get all the kinks worked out and get everyone on board with it. In reflecting back to the beginning, I think that our teachers had more trouble adjusting than some of the students. I will be happy to share our plan with you if you would like to see an example. Good luck!
